Do It Yourself (DIY) Wedding Planning Craze Part II
At an earlier period in my life, I thought that I could do
anything and everything. Just let
me at it and I could build it, present it, make it, chair it, run it, direct
it….. This is a true making of a
control freak. Don’t knock the
controlling part, that is what now makes me an excellent event planner. J
As I matured and grew into myself I realized a couple of
things:
- I have great strengths in some areas
- Other people have strengths in other areas
- Tapping into other people’s strengths allows me to develop my strong points and perfecting what I do best.
That revelation came slowly and I am at the point where I am
happy to let others do what they do best, so I can focus on what I do best.
I really learned this lesson when I tired to fix a leaning
tree in my front yard, as if I knew how, or had the means. I ended up tripping and falling down on
my arms and hurting myself to the point where I wasn’t able to use my arms nor
my hands for about 4 weeks. That
meant that I wasn’t able to type, play the piano, brush my teeth, lift a cup of
coffee. You get the point.
When BRIDES set up to plan, create and work their wedding,
and do something that they have NEVER done before, it just might end up with
disastrous consequences.
Experience DOES count!
Keep in mind that YOU as the BRIDE have never put your own wedding
together. Planning or helping with
the wedding for your friends is not the same as planning your own wedding. However, there are many BRIDES that
think they can do IT ALL, thus the title: BRIDEZILLA. What actually happens, is that someone else steps in at the
last minute and picks up the “ball” and runs with it, but not always making the
“basket”.
It’s not that you as the BRIDE are this mean hideous person,
it’s the stresses from the planning, from wanting everything to be perfect that
creates the uncontrollable, control freak in you.
Even a surgeon allows someone else to operate on him/her. Even a chef hires someone else to
prepare a special meal for a special occasion. Even a doctor has his/her own physician to care for his/her
children and family.
Why is it necessary to hire someone as a consultant for your
wedding and to manage the day of your wedding?
The answer is simple:
you as the BRIDE are too close to the situation to make the best choices
for your very special ONCE IN A LIFE TIME DAY! That is why the physicians have their own physicians. That is why when I got married, even
though I’m a planer, I worked with two other planners up until one week before
the big day, when I gave it all away to them. That allowed me to enjoy my relatives and on the day of the
wedding, I had a blast enjoying MY day.
My now husband enjoyed it as well, because I did.
I don’t mean to leave off the GROOM, but in my experience,
they just enjoy seeing the beautiful love of their lives walk down the isle and
they want her to enjoy the day.
The rest is just gravy for them.
You and your special partner deserve to enjoy your day, to
bask in the glory of all that it is, to remember the day with fondness and a
smile.
When we try to do something that is bigger then us, we will
get hurt. Know what you can do and
do that. Know what you cannot do and delegate that to someone else.
